RECAP: Red Bull Roster Issues On Show Against St. Louis; Break Needed, 3-0

Missing multiple starters due to national team call-ups, Red Bull New York’s replacement roster fell behind early against St. Louis CITY SC.
Despite staying in it, RBNY also allowed two late goals.
The first-ever meeting between the sides ended with STL walking away with the 3-0 victory.
In total, the availability report was almost an entire playing XI.
- Ronald Donkor – International Duty (Out)
- Matthew Dos Santos – International Duty (Out)
- Julian Hall – International Duty (Out)
- Mijahir Jiménez – International Duty (Out)
- Adri Mehmeti – International Duty (Out)
- Rafael Mosquera – International Duty (Out)
- Dennis Nelich – International Duty (Out)
- David Ruiz – International Duty (Out)
- Omar Valencia – International Duty (Out)
- Justin Che – Ankle (Questionable)
- Cameron Harper – Hamstring (Questionable)
- Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty – Hamstring (Questionable)
For the first hour, RBNY stayed in it. But fatigue and the addition of more reserve team players made the issues more apparent.
Rafael Navarro opened the scoring for St. Louis in the fourth minute, recording his fifth goal of the season for CITY. Late in the second half, Simon Becher made it 2-0. Tomáš Ostrák found the back of the net afterward in stoppage time.

The victory increased the club’s unbeaten streak to 19 consecutive matches across all competitions.
Mexican attacker Jorge Ruvulcaba was once again a no-show, with four missed chances in front of goal that could have equalized.
“In this last period, generally, there have been a lot of positives,” Bradley said.
“Tonight, the last thing we’re ever going to do is make excuses. It is the reality of playing in MLS that, for now, until the schedule changes, there are certain nights during international windows when you’re missing some guys. I give our team big credit because, in this last period, nobody has batted an eye. The guys who have been here have pushed and worked really hard. We were in a good position tonight to come away with some points, and in the end, we couldn’t make the plays that we needed to.”
Look, no one was going into Wednesday thinking Red Bull was going to win. The team was loading up on reserve team players as the international break took hold over the roster. Even a weather delay from Saturday to Wednesday did little to help, as the roster remained the same.
Overall, New York cannot afford to be missing players. Especially ones key to offense.
Hopefully this issue corrects itself after the international break. MLS playing during this time was already a joke.
New York is back at Sports Illustrated Stadium for another first-ever on Saturday, October 10. They will face San Diego FC in another West Coast welcoming.
