Red Bulls’ Julian Hall Named MLS All-Star
This appointment to the All-Star game is a historic moment for Red Bull New York and its academy, and also for Julian Hall.
Hall has become the third native New Yorker in club history to be named an all-star, joining club legend Mike Petke and also Westchester Soccer Club owner Tyler Adams.
This is the first time Red Bull New York will send a representative since 2019, when Kemar Lawrence took part in the festivities against Atletico de Madrid.
The MLS All Stars lost the game 3-0.
Aside from the historical aspect of this announcement, this is a major stepping stone for Hall because of the exposure that these games have. While the idea of an All-Star game is foreign to many of the world’s top leagues, it could catapult Hall’s career, as teams like Atletico de Madrid, Arsenal, Barcelona, and many others have reached that level of prestige.
In addition, Hall was not selected by the fans or the coach. The decision to include him on the All-Star team was made by MLS commissioner Don Garber. The way that the team is selected is either by the fans themselves, the coach who would select some, or there would be one slot that is going to be selected by the commissioner, and in Julian Hall’s case, he was chosen to take this slot in the lineup to be a showcase of young talent in the MLS.
Garber used his pick on Hall because of his production and age. For a player who is 18 years old to have a .86 goal contribution per game his year (9 goals and 4 assists), it seems like a good way to promote the league and shed the fame of which it is a retirement league as players like Robert Lewandowski are going to the Chicago Fire from FC Barcelona on a free transfer.
Adri Mehmeti
Regarding the young talent, one didn’t make it to the game. That was Adri Mehmeti, who has been alright this season.
If the All-Star game were earlier this season, I could have seen Mehmeti make it to the game and maybe be in a transfer to a team like Monterrey, Tigres, or Pumas, as those usually have a lot of players move in and out of their rosters and also play in CONCACAF tournaments, which leads to a larger venue for their talent.
