The New York Red Bulls’ injury woes continue.
It was announced that defender Dylan Nealis will be missing at least eight weeks of competition.

The player suffered a hamstring injury in New York’s match against D.C. United.

This means his earliest game back will probably be RBNY’s home match against Minnesota United FC on June 28.

“It’s tough when we got the message that (Dylan) is out eight to ten weeks. But now that’s the situation. He’s a very reliable player for us in our team,” head coach Sandro Schwarz told the media.

Dylan Nealis represents yet another injury for New York, which, ahead of their 10th game of 2025, has seen a plethora of players go down.

Cameron Harper missed multiple weeks of games with a leg injury, only returning two weeks ago and making his first start against D.C. United.

Last week against United, New York’s injury report was as follows:

During today’s training press conference, Coach Schwarz gave promising updates on two players.

Firstly, he mentioned that Kyle Duncan will be in the lineup on Saturday against CF Montreal. The coach would not confirm if the defender would be starting or on the bench. Logically, after missing the first nine games of the season, it would make sense for Duncan to start the game on the sidelines.

However, Nealis’ injury could force the issue.

“Now we have to find a solution,” Schwarz said.

“The solution could be to change the structure, to play with a wingback. Play with three center backs on Saturday, or change the one-on-one position with the right fullback.”

The other update was regarding Daniel Edelman. The midfielder and youth U.S. national team captain will likely be returning to team training next week ahead of New York’s match against Inter Miami CF and Lionel Messi.

Of note, no questions were asked about Lewis Morgan. The Scottish international is still recovering from a knee injury. He was seen joining his teammates midway through training, though he was kept aside for most of it.

Even a less-than-strength RBNY squad without Dylan Nealis will be favored against a winless CF Montreal side. With only four goals to their name this season, the Canadians have little to show on paper.

However, Coach Schwarz noted in his press conference how the squad has improved under new head coach Marco Donadel.

“Please take a look at the last four games of Montreal. They played against Chicago (1–1), against Columbus (2–1 loss), they played against Charlotte (0–1 loss), and they played against Orlando (0–0),” Schwarz said.

“Please take a look. That’s not a team when you take a look at these four games. It’s not a team when you are thinking ‘oh, they have only three points’.”
