Knicks 2024-2025 Schedule Revealed
With summer and the NBA Offseason beginning to wind down and make way for fall and the much anticipated 2024-2025 NBA Season, the New York Knicks’ official schedule has been released for a season in which they have the highest expectations set for the franchise in decades.
Let’s take a look at the road ahead the Knickerbockers will face starting this October as they seek to deliver New York something not brought home in 52 years: an NBA title.
Preseason
Before the real season gets underway, the Knicks have announced the five preseason matchups they will have in October as they get back into action. On October 6th, they will visit the Hornets in Charlotte for their first exhibition before heading back home to the World’s Most Famous Arena for matchups with the Wizards, Timberwolves, and Hornets again.
Then, the preseason will wrap up on October 18th when the Knicks take on the Wizards in Washington.
An Early Test
For the third time in the past four seasons, the Knicks will open up their season with a matchup against the Boston Celtics. This time, it will be up in Boston at the TD Garden, as New York will visit the defending champions for NBA Opening Night on October 22nd. Then, the team will head home to New York for the home opener on Friday, October 25th, where the Knicks and Pacers will face off in a primetime rematch of last season’s thrilling Eastern semifinal series.
The Knicks will immediately face a big test as their season gets underway. Seven of their first games will be on the road, and eight of the ten first teams they face are squads that reached the postseason last year. They will go on a four-city road trip to Miami, Detroit, Houston, and Atlanta starting on October 30th and will be back at the Garden on November 8th to take on the Bucks.
NBA Cup
The Knicks were drawn into East Group A, along with the 76ers, Nets, Hornets, and Magic. New York is arguably the strongest team in the group, with the other strong contender being Philadelphia, whom the Knicks disposed of in six games in a first-round playoff matchup last season. The 76ers made strong improvements over the offseason, however, including the acquisition of Paul George from the Clippers. Group play will kick off on November 12th, as the Knicks visit Philly to take on the 76ers.
Then, on November 16th, Mikal Bridges will face off against his former team as New York is set to take on their cross-town rivals, the Nets, at the World’s Most Famous. Two weeks later, there will be a Knicks-Hornets matinee game at noon on November 29th before group play wraps up with a primetime matchup at the Garden against the Magic on December 3rd.
January and Beyond
The Knicks will see their former fan favorite center, Isaiah Hartenstein when they visit the Thunder in Oklahoma City on January 3rd. A week later, he will be welcomed back to the Garden on an opposing team for the first time as the two teams will match up again.
The Knicks will be getting relatively comfortable at home in January, as eleven of their fifteen games that month will be home at Madison Square Garden. From January 6th to the 13th, they will have a five-game homestand hosting the Magic, Raptors, Thunder, Bucks, and Pistons. Outside of back-to-back road matchups with Oklahoma City and Chicago on the third and fourth of January, the Knicks will spend the remainder of January in the Northeast, as their only other road games will be in Philidelphia and across the river in Brooklyn.
Following the All-Star break, the Knicks have a tough stretch, taking on many formidable opponents from February 21st until March 17th, where the schedule begins to soften a bit. In that stretch, they will have ten matchups with teams who reached the postseason last year, including a trip to Boston to take on the defending champs on February 23rd.
The Knicks will end the 2024-2025 season on Sunday, April 13th, in a matinee contest with their cross-town rivals over in Brooklyn.
In the Spotlight
The Knicks have 34 nationally televised games this season, nine more than their total of 25 last year. LeBron and the Lakers have the most with 39, the Warriors come in second with 36, and the Knicks and the defending champs, Boston, are tied for third with 34.
There are 49 days until the Knicks begin preseason play and 66 days before they will be in Boston and ready to tip off the highly anticipated 2024-2025 NBA season. The schedule’s official release has piqued the excitement for this upcoming season even more as New York looks toward the most important and spotlight-filled season of basketball the city has seen in a very long time.
The season opens up with a tough stretch, which will be an early test for this Knicks team. Right off the bat, everyone will get to see if this team has the camaraderie and grit to get through a grueling stretch of games as the season begins. This is territory that has been uncharted for quite some time for the Knicks faithful, as the franchise heads into this year not just as a dark horse team or a young team looking to win a playoff round or two but as a team legitimately considered a contender to do something that New York has not done in 52 years – win an NBA title.
It’ll all start a little less than two months from now in Boston as the quest for a title begins for the New York Knickerbockers.
