The Giants began the player off-season program Monday. While this phase of the program is voluntary, the number of players attending seems robust.
For 27 players, the motivation to attend is an incentive payment built into their contracts.

Head Coach Brian Daboll met with the players to kick things off and laid the framework for coming together as a team.  “Be a Pro” in all things you do as a player to prepare for the season.  Attack the next two weeks of conditioning with an enthusiasm to get better every day.

Giants.com published a 54-second video clip of Daboll’s first meeting with the players in attendance.

It was upbeat—except for this one frame of the video that captures a picture worth more than a thousand words.

Here it is. At the precise moment, Coach Daboll says, “I’m *** excited you’re back,” take a look at Daniel Jones’s posture in the front row. Does that look like a player excited to be back? Does that look like a player excited to begin collecting his conditioning incentive payment and then his $40M per year?

No, in my opinion, that looks like a player who has either just been told, “Hey, welcome back…you’re meeting with the media today.”, or a player who knows his bosses are looking for his replacement.  It sure looks like the pressure of the Giants’ intensive pre-draft interviews and tryouts of this year’s QB prospects is wearing on DJ.  While he’s rehabbing his torn ACL and in the facility every day, he is seeing most of the top QB prospects coming into the Giants’ facilities for meetings, physicals, and fieldwork.

This one picture speaks to the current state of the Giants QB situation better than any of the current pre-draft rumors.  Like Saquon Barkley was greeted by the harsh reality of the business side of the NFL last year, Daniel Jones sees it happening right before his eyes.  And his eyes clearly needed a break in this picture.

The draft rumors are swirling within the NFL and all sports shows.  As NFL Analyst Daniel Jeremiah stated in his updated mock draft, “I wouldn’t rule out the Giants trading up for a quarterback this year. If they stick and pick at No. 6, adding Nabers’ playmaking ability would be a good move.”

NFL Network’s Pete Schrager released his mock draft this week and has the Giants trading up to Pick No. 4 and selecting JJ McCarthy of Michigan.

Eight more days before the NFL draft.
I’m sure Daniel Jones cannot wait for this to all be over.
