This comes as the clock continues to tick on his contract, with the former Crimson Tide defensive-back set to become a free agent this off-season. McKinney became a Giants Captain in 2022 and has certainly made the case to earn himself a big payday.

Xavier McKinney was drafted out of Alabama with the 36th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Many experts believed that the Giants had earned themselves the biggest steal of the entire draft in McKinney. The former Alabama defensive back fell to the second round, while expectations had him landing in the first.

The Safety has been a valuable servant for Big Blue in an underwhelming past four years for the Giants. He was one of two players who appeared in all 17 games in 2023, alongside Free-Agency acquisition Bobby Okereke.

What’s Next for McKinney?

General Manager Joe Schoen has a big decision to make this off-season, with McKinney being one of the key leaders of the team.

The Giants could decide to use the Franchise Tag on McKinney, which will cost $16.2 million for the safety position this year. Star running back Saquon Barkley will also be an unrestricted free agent this off-season after signing a one-year deal in 2023.
