It’s that time of the year. It is officially the offseason for the Giants and there are a lot of things to do in order to get this team ready to compete for the Super Bowl next season. The first of these tasks is to figure out what the Giants are going to do with the quarterback position. The Giants recently signed Daniel Jones to a massive 4 year $160 million dollar deal back in March thinking that he was going to be the savior to all the team’s problems. Well once the season started he looked nothing like the savior we thought was going to get better. Whether it was a product of the offense or his poor play it is currently a decision that the Giants are going to have to make.
This decision comes at an important time because the Giants have the 6th pick and have a lot of draft capital to potentially move up in the draft. This year’s draft class includes many different QBs that the Giants could potentially take including Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, Michael Penix Jr., Bo Nix, and J.J McCarthy. All of these QBs offer something different for teams and could have a major impact on their future to come.
As far as other options for the Giants there are a multitude of Offensive Linemen that will be available at the 6 pick and with Evan Neal’s poor play recently exploring the options at tackle wouldn’t be Joe Schoen’s worst idea.
Another task for this Giants front office is to figure out what they are going to do with Saquon Barkley. Saquon has been a pivotal part of this teams offense from the first day he was drafted and although he has had a few major injuries it is still going to be a tough decision to let go basically the teams only offensive weapon from this season. This front office is finally going to have to decide is it time to let Saquon walk and get a younger running back from the draft or sign him long term.
The final big decision for this offseason is going to be the coordinator positions. After these past couple of weeks after the season ended there has been a ton of drama to reach the surface about the relationship between Brian Daboll and Wink Martindale. This resulted in Wink resigning and leaving the Giants without their defensive coordinator. A key to this offseason will be the Giants finding someone who can continue to develop this young and improving Giants Defense.
Arguably this offseason will be one of the most important ones in recent Giants history. This offseason is where we could see a new franchise quarterback or if we’re going to try at it again with Daniel Jones at the helm. We also might see a change in our franchise running back and coaching staff. No matter what happens with all of these decisions the Giants are going to be looking different in some key positions next season.
