With the Giants disappointing regular season over, Giants Head Coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen now enter a pivotal offseason.

Daboll and Schoen came into 2022 with the fanbase just expecting some improvement.  After all, they were inheriting a QB they didn’t take, a roster filled with holes, and little money to fix it.  All they did was win 9 games in route to a road playoff win in Minnesota.  2023 proved to be a more difficult year.  Still, Daboll was able to weather the storm of starting out 1-5  and finish strong with a 6-11 record whilst battling through a number of injuries including to starting QB Daniel Jones.  The Giants brass still has the respect of the fanbase, but with another disappointing season in 2024, that tune could quickly change.

Entering year 3 of the Schoen/Daboll era, the Giants have holes to fill on this roster.  This offseason, the Giants are expected to have some money to spend.  Schoen did a pretty solid job in free agency the past 2 years, and he’s going to need to do it again.  Not to mention, the Giants have a number of free agents on their own roster that need to be sorted out.  Most notably, Saquon Barkley and Xavier McKinney.  How Schoen navigates those waters and fills roster holes will be fascinating.

Perhaps an even bigger decision looming, is with the most important position on the football field.  Despite signing Daniel Jones to a long term contract last year, he had a disappointing season before tearing his ACL in November.  While Jones will undoubtedly be on this roster next season, the Giants hold the number 6 pick, and are in position to draft a QB.  Whether Schoen decides to make a move at QB in the draft or not, could shape the rest of his tenure with the Giants.  Along with this years draft, Schoen’s previous draft classes need to take the next step in order for this team to be successful.  That all starts with coaching.

By now, you have probably seen the controversy regarding Brian Daboll and his coaching staff decisions. The bottom line is that Brian Daboll is doing what he thinks is necessary to improve this team.  Whether or not that proves to be true is going to make or break his career as Giants Head Coach.  Daboll has done a good job his first 2 years, but not good enough.  The Giants offense regressed big time this year, and with the loss of Wink Martindale, the defense will have a whole new look next season.  Daboll has proven to be the most successful Giants Head Coach since Tom Coughlin, but he needs to get this team back to winning in 2024.

The New York Football Giants have the same Head Coach and General Manger entering a 3rd season together for the first time since 2015.  That continuity is a good thing.  With that being said, Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen need to prove that this year was the outlier between their first 2 seasons.

How the 2024 offseason is handled is pivotal for the future of the Giants.
