It seems like it’s been quite a while since we’ve talked about anything substantial about the season and how well Gotham FC is doing this year. Yes, the Challenge Cup has been going on, but the regular season is about to jump off with a bang again this weekend.

Where is Gotham FC Heading This Season?
The answer to that question is probably the NWSL playoffs. With a current 7-4-4 record and 25 points, Gotham FC sits soundly in third place in the NWSL and only one point out of first place currently. With Midge Purce back and the return of the Gotham FC World Cup players, this squad should be able to revive their regular season quickly and positively.
Gotham FC played deep into the Challenge Cup and used that time to keep this squad lively, anticipating their teammates’ return from the World Cup action. Remember, this is a franchise that only won a total of four regular season matches last year.
Does the World Cup Help Players When They Return to the NWSL?
Again, I can confidently say that any type of major international competition will bring out the best in soccer players, and the Women’s World Cup is the crowning jewel of women’s professional soccer.
Gotham FC had World Cup representation with the USWNT, Brazil, Ireland, and Nigeria, and the experience gained from this tournament will no doubt translate into valuable experience once the NWSL season fires back up again.
