The NFL Postseason begins this weekend and the Giants are in full preparation mode for a Sunday rematch with the Minnesota Vikings. Head Coach Brian Daboll is staying even-keeled right now. But the Front Office is rolling out the playoff slogan “Our Way”.
If you haven’t seen this yet, Michael Strahan narrates a hype video that summarizes this Giants’ season. Watch it here. The slogan “Our Way” is described using the same traits Coach Dabs and GM Joe Schoen have promoted all year, smart, tough, dependable. It is guaranteed to get you revved up for the playoffs.
The Giants have a real legitimate shot at beating the Vikings this time, mainly because they had the chance to beat them in Week 16. The Giants outgained the Vikings by 92 yards. The difference in that game was turnovers and penalties. The Giants had two turnovers and a blocked punt while the Vikings had none. The Giants also had seven penalties to just two for the Vikings. So, the Giants already know they can go toe-to-toe with the #3 seed. They need to clean up the penalties and avoid turnovers. If the Giants play their game, run the ball efficiently, win the time of possession, hold onto the ball, pressure Kirk Cousins, control Justin Jefferson (somewhat), and avoid last-second 61-yard field goals, then they have a shot.
The Giants Defense is also getting healthier at the right time. CB Adoree Jackson (knee) returned to practice today. Safety Xavier McKinney has had the last two games to regain his form. This lets the Giants have their strongest secondary to counter the aerial attack of the Vikings. Defensive Coordinator Wink Martindale also has another legitimate ILB in Jarrad Davis that was all over the field last week against the Eagles. Teaming Davis and Jaylon Smith could help stop RB Dalvin Cook and the Vikings’ running attack. Add the veteran leadership of S Landon Collins to this “positionless” defense as Wink likes to call it. The defense looks good.
The team is rested and confident. Let’s hope this game goes “Our Way”.
