This Sunday, on New Year’s Day, the Giants face the Colts in what is their biggest home game in a long time.  The crowd will be raucous and I’m sure the players will be fired up as well.  The reason for all this excitement is that the Giants get into the playoffs for the first time in 6 years if they beat the Colts.  To get ready for this matchup, let’s take a look back at the Giants and Colts meeting back in 1993.

These two teams game in 1993 has many similarities to this Sunday’s game.  The Giants had the better record in both matchups and a win in both games would give the Giants a shot at the playoffs.  One difference is that the Giants were much bigger favorites in the game back in 1993.  That was rightly so, as the Giants were a 9-3 football team having won 4 straight games whilst the Colts were a 4-8 football team looking to pile together some wins.  The Giants came into this game and decided to run the ball down the Colts throat.  This made sense being that the Giants finished as the number 1 rushing offense in 1993 whereas the Colts finished with the worst run defense in the league.  The Giants plan worked to perfection, as they rushed for 205 yards on the ground.  173 of those yards came from running back Rodney Hampton who would also rush for a touchdown.  Giants fullback Jarrod Bunch would also have a touchdown.  The rushing game was the main catalyst in this win, but Phil Simms was able to toss a touchdown pass to wide receiver Chris Calloway who made a highlight worthy grab in the endzone.  Despite the Colts actually putting up more yards offensively then the Giants, they were held to just 2 Dean Biasucci field goals.  The Giants would win 20-6 and with some help, would clinch a playoff spot with a 10-3 record.

The Giants took care of business in 1993 and did exactly as they were supposed to do.  The 2022 Giants need to do just that on Sunday.  Beat the Colts at home, and then go into week 18 with nothing to worry about other than getting the Eagles back for the butt whopping they gave us a few weeks back.

Let’s Party like its 1993 and clinch a playoff spot against the Colts on Sunday.
