Raise your hand if you thought the Giants would be 4-1 midway through October?
Damn it, it feels good to be here. The Giants face a tough test this week as they take on the 3-2 Baltimore Ravens. To get ready for this one, let’s look back to the Giants and Ravens heavyweight matchup at Giants Stadium back in 2008.
Heading into this matchup, the Giants were 8-1 and the Ravens were 6-3. The real story of the 2008 Giants, was there Earth, Wind, and Fire rushing attack. The trio of Brandon Jacobs, Derrick Ward, and Ahmad Bradshaw were running through defenses and were a huge catalyst in the Giants 8-1 record. As is the story with the Ravens a lot of the time, they were built on their defense. The Ray Lewis led unit also happened to be the best rushing defense in the NFL going into this battle. It would be fascinating to see which of these 2 units would come out on top. Well, it wouldn’t be long before we saw who won. The Giants were able to rush for 207 yards in this matchup. Jacobs ran for 73 yards and 2 touchdowns, Ward added 41 yards, and Ahmad Bradshaw added 96 yards. The Giants defense was able to hold the Ravens to just 275 total yards and cornerback Aaron Ross would pick off Joe Flacco twice, taking one back for a touchdown. The Giants would win by a final score of 30-10 and improve to 9-1 on the season.
The 2022 Giants may not be the dominating unit the 2008 Giants were, but they’re finding ways to win games. Sunday will not be easy by any means, but the Ravens are a beatable team. It will be very intriguing to see how Brian Daboll and Wink Martindale scheme up their sides of the ball in this one.
Let’s just hope the Giants are able to come out and dominate like they did back in 2008.
