The New York Jets have had a rough start to this season.
Granted, they didn’t exactly set the world on fire last season when they failed to qualify for the playoffs, but they were more confident of having a solid start to this season.
Those hopes were dashed brutally and quickly by the Baltimore Ravens on their first gameday. The Jets were by no means the favorites with the bookmakers for the Superbowl this year, however, the Empire State has recently begun reaping the rewards of the revenue being generated from gambling. There’s plenty more information about NY sportsbooks that are available online.
The New York Jets season in 2021 wasn’t the finest in their history.
However, it was a noted improvement over their 2020 campaign.
The draft pick resulted in several new faces at MetLife Stadium. It led to additions to the squad of Ahmad Gardner, Garrett Wilson, Jermaine Johnson, Breece Hall, Jeremy Ruckert, Max Mitchell, and Micheal Clemons. Jets fans were more optimistic going into this season. Based on these draft picks, you’d think they’d have put in a more promising showing against the Baltimore Ravens.
However, that wasn’t the case. The Ravens comprehensively broke down the New York Jets and steamrolled them, resulting in a resounding 24-9 loss for the New York-based outfit. It was a sobering moment for the Jets, and the gulf in quality was evident in the game from quite early on. Coach Robert Saleh will be frustrated and look to get back to the drawing board and find out exactly what went wrong in the opening game.
That’s not to say the Jets can’t turn the ship around. It is only the season’s opening game, and plenty of teams have lost their first game and gone on to have successful seasons. Maybe we’re being slightly harsh too. The Baltimore Ravens have been and continue to be one of the great franchises in the NFL, especially over the past couple of decades. Not only have they lifted the Superbowl trophy several times, but they also continue to be in the conversation every season as potential winners.
The Jets have a lot of rebuilding to do, they are considered one of the weakest teams in the league, and there are no signs of that changing. The Cleveland Browns may not provide a sterner test than the Ravens. However, after starting their 2022/23 campaign with a 26-24 win over the Panthers, they’ll be full of energy and positivity. The Browns will be looking to make it two in two and start their season off in the strongest way possible.
They have every reason to be confident. With an outside chance of making the playoffs this year, Kevin Stefanski’s men will be looking to keep their foot on the gas and deal with the Jets in the same fashion that the Baltimore Ravens did. On the other hand, the Jets will be looking to get their first win on the board. Their fans and the owner will expect a response following the flat Gameday 1 output.
Any rebuilding that takes place at the New York Jets will take some time. They are a far cry from the team from the early 2000s that made the playoff final six times in that decade. So yes, they can bounce back. Their fans need to be patient and believe that their luck will change.
They must also have more luck with injuries and adapt to in-game situations. Of course, only one of these things is truly in their control. Any off-field and boardroom issues have hindered the franchise over the last decade. It is a distracting topic when the owners are in the news for negative reasons. This doesn’t create unity and harmony within the team.
It doesn’t just apply to the roster of players but to the boardroom level as well. The New York Jets must put on a united front and pull in the same direction. If they manage to get this all in line, they may be able to come back from their disappointing opening of the season.
It’d be an unlikely turn of events for a team that is very much struggling to establish itself as a team that other franchises should worry about.
However, the NFL is one of the most exciting leagues in American sports, and anything could potentially happen if the Jets can change their fortune and get a few wins under their belt.
