Did the New York Football Giants do something right?
The New York Giants came away with two prospects who at 1 point were discussed as number 1 overall picks. Those players are Oregon Edge Rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux and Alabama Offensive Tackle Evan Neal. Based off everything I heard prior to the draft, I absolutely love the picks, and it seems like for the first time in, I don’t know how long, the overwhelming majority of the fan base is actually happy with the draft picks.
I am a firm believer in the draft philosophy of taking the best available player in relation to positional need. Well it seems like the Giants did just that. I wrote a blog a couple of weeks ago about how the Giants 2 biggest needs were offensive tackle and edge rusher. My fear was that the Giants would reach on a tackle just to fill a need, when a player like Thibodeaux or Sauce Gardner were on the board and might be better overall prospects. So, my ideal scenario was that both Neal and Ekwonu were there at 5 and one of Sauce or Thibodeaux was there as well. That way, we could take Sauce or Thibodeaux and get either of the tackles at 7. So you could imagine my excitement when that scenario played out. It feels like the Giants found the perfect blend of getting the best available player in relation to positional need, and that makes this Giant fan happy.
Look, this draft is far from over and this team is far from complete. There’s 7 more picks in this draft and the Giants need to hit on more picks to try and fill more holes. Not to mention, Thibodeaux and Neal need to backup the hype that they are getting, because if they don’t, New York will eat them alive.
Let’s just hope the joy we’re feeling right now for Kayvon Thibodeaux and Evan Neal leads to the Giants winning more games.
