Well, now that the offseason is fully upon us (despite waiting for another Super Bowl and then thankfully another NFL Draft just around the corner,) it’s time to break down the performances of the Jets offense, defense and special teams squads from this past season.  Despite a 4-13 record, there were some bright spots in the Jets season and it doesn’t take hard work to find the players who made it happen in the trenches.

Defensively, the Jets shined at the linebacker position with the C.J. Mosley and Quincy Williams Show.  These two players helped contribute more than stellar numbers; they were the defensive glue that kept the season alive when all looked bleak and hopeless.  The New York Jets were the most injured team and probably the greenest team (no pun here) to show up in an NFL stadium in 2021.  The leadership, performance and work ethic of Mosely and Williams helped make this season from going even further south quickly and turn into an Ofer season (0 for for 17.)

C.J. Mosley led the Jets with 168 tackles which was a career high and the most by a Jets defensive player since Demario Davis registered 171 back in 2017.  Even more importantly, Mosley was the backstop in the Jets defense on 3rd and 4th down with 16 stops for no gain.  Quincy Williams added another 107 tackles including 16 tackles for loss (team leader in that category) and two sacks along with three forced fumbles.  The Mosley-Williams duo was the first pair of Jets to register over 100 tackles for the season since Avery Williamson and Jamal Adams did the same back in 2018.  As the Jets LB corps was gutted with injuries at times, even Mosley and Williams didn’t play in all 17 regular season games in 2021.  That honor goes to former free agent Del’Shawn Phillips who acted as a LB pinch hitter and played whenever and wherever needed in all 17 games.  Phillips main contributions came on special teams and it should be duly noted that his presence helped that phase of the Jets game immensely.  If the Jets linebackers can stay healthy, there are signs that this young group will continue to stand up and make plays on D and help contribute to an even more successful 2022 season.
