The NHL preseason has been underway as we get closer to the start of the regular season. The New York Rangers currently have a 2-1 record for the preseason.
Last night, the Rangers played against the New Jersey Devils and won 6-1. It was a stellar game for the team. Unfortunately, during the game Ryan Reaves left with an injury.
After a hit by Devils player P.K. Subban, Reaves had to be helped off the ice and did not return to the game. It was later ruled that he suffered from a lower-body injury.
Head coach Gerard Gallant said after the game that the injury didn’t seem too serious and that Reaves was day-to-day.
Reaves was a recent addition to the team during this past offseason. He was added to fulfill the enforcer role.
Reaves has only played three games with the Rangers. It is likely he will return next game, but as of now nothing has been confirmed.
Later in the game, Chris Kreider shared some words with Subban which eventually led to a fight. Although it didn’t seem like Subban had bad intentions and the hit wasn’t dirty, Gallant was happy to see his team sticking up for each other.
It shows that the hit by Tom Wilson last season has had a lasting affect on the team. They are taking it seriously and want to make a change.
After seeing Kreider step up it led many to believe that he should be named captain. The team has not named a captain yet, but it seems possible they will this year.
The Rangers have one more preseason game left against the New York Islanders. The Rangers regular season begins on October 13 against the Washington Capitals. There will be a lot to prove this season with plenty of new additions to the team and front office.
