Ok, the NFL preseason really doesn’t mean a lot in terms of how a team will play come the regular season but winning two preseason games in a row does tend to inspire a bit of confidence in the process that the New York Jets are improving each day.  Head coach Robert Saleh looks like he is the right coach for the right moment with the Jets and after the 23-14 preseason win over the Green Bay Packers, the Jets hopes for a better 2021 are getting brighter after each practice and preseason game.

That being said, it’s still the preseason and the Jets have largely played againts backup players from other teams.  Yes, the Jets still have a huge amount of work ahead of them because the regular season is nothing like the preseason and the roster still needs to be cut down.  Kudos to QB Zach Wilson who is improving after each outing.  Wilson is starting to show more and more of that promise that made him a first round draft pick out of BYU.  Throwing 9 for 11 for 128 yards and his first NFL touchdowns, Wilson made WR Corey Davis and TE Tyler Kroft his favorite targets and threw two TD’s towards Kroft’s way in the victory over the Packers.  Scores in the preseason aren’t that important; building confidence in a rookie draft pick QB is huge and an integral part of the process of building a successful offensive scheme under OC Mike LaFleur.

Special teams also had a great game against the Packers with K Matt Ammendola kicking three FG’s from 30, 46 and 54 yards out.  Ammendola needed a good outing to try and stamp out his name on the Opening Day roster as the starting kicker.  However, injuries are starting to mount for the Jets with DE Carl Lawson and S Zane Lewis already out with season-ending injuries, LB Jarrad Davis also was injured against the Packers as was backup QB Mike White with third-string QB James Morgan finishing up the game.  Football is a physical game and injuries, although unfortunate and never desired, play a part in whittling down NFL rosters before Opening Day.  Injuries also open up roster spots for players who might not otherwise get the chance to play so this is a part of the preseason process.  With one more preseason game to go againts the Eagles, the Jets seem like a very different team this year and all we can do is hope that this new look, new feel, and new vibe Jets team carries their early success into the 2021 regular season.
