I said last week that the Giants vs. Jets 2010 classic doesn’t get much better for a preseason game; well, this game gives it a run for its money.  The defending Super Bowl Champion Giants could hold off the Browns 37-34, but not after a wild showing.
This game featured a hat trick from Dominick Hixon of the Giants, a blocked punt for a safety, a scoop and score, a pick-six, a difficult contested touchdown catch, and a double-digit comeback.

If the Giants and Browns give us half of that Sunday, fans will be happy.

Had Dominick Hixon Not Been Known Already to Giants Fans at This Time, Then This Game May Be Talked About Just As Much as the Victor Cruz Game.

Hixon was able to haul in two-toe drag touchdown catches and then later in the game had an 82-yard punt return for a touchdown following a safety.  This was a Giants receiver room who included Plaxico Burress, Amani Toomer, Steve Smith, and Mario Manningham.  Talk about solidifying your spot in a position with lots of depth.  If someone like David Sills, Dante Pettis, or CJ Board could do that on the current Giants, they might make the team.  Preseason games are all about making a name for yourself; Dominick Hixon surely did on this night.

The 2008 Giants are to this day the best regular-season team of my lifetime.

Circumstances are what they are, and they did not go back to back, but never since has a Giants team been able to play better all-around football than this one on such a consistent basis.  The key to the Giants’ 2008 success was previewed in this game.  Although the Giants only passed for 129 yards, they previewed their dominant rushing attack by going for 200 yards on the ground.

Defensively, they could have been better, blowing a 30-3 lead and allowing 353 total yards.  Even so, they were able to secure a 95-yard scoop and score by James Butler and hold the Browns off for the victory.

The Giants vs. Browns Sunday will have a lot of implications for the upcoming season. Some guys may need to have a Dominick Hixon-like game to make this team.

If you are on the fence about watching this one, well, take a look at how entertaining a preseason game can actually be.
