Will Hernandez tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.
Other close contacts, including four additional NY Giants offensive lineman and two coaches, returned to work after negative test results.

Depending on how you look at it, the Giants avoided a game-threatening situation today.

With no further COVID cases after Will Hernandez’s positive test, the Giants reset their sights on Monday’s opponent, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Hernandez is a big question mark for Monday’s game.

For now, Shane Lemieux is getting first-team reps. Joe Judge stated that Shane was going to be getting more playing time soon anyway. His opportunity will come against yet another very tough defensive line anchored by Ndamukong Suh. The Bucs also bring two elite edge rushers in Shaq Barrett (Giants killer from last year) and Jason Pierre-Paul. Barrett’s four sacks in Daniel Jones’ debut weren’t enough to keep Jones from getting the “W” in his first start. JPP returns to MetLife Stadium, the scene of many happy moments as a Giant. JPP is playing very well this year.

But, this is a very different Bucs team this year with Tom Brady at the helm of an offense that is humming on all cylinders. A good Giants Defense will get a very real test. TB12 has thrown 15 touchdowns this year against only one (1) interception. Ronald Jones II is running wild. Mike Evans, Bucs WR, and Giants CB, James Bradberry, get to renew a very real rivalry. Prior to Bradberry signing with the GMen, he would square off against Evans twice each year. Let’s hope Bradberry fares just as well this time.

I’m anxious to see what Lemieux can do this week. Left Guard was his main position in Oregon for the past three years. Much has been made of his aggressiveness–maybe even a mean streak–as a player. It will be interesting to see how his game speed and technique stand up to the Bucs’ veteran linemen.

Get well fast Will.
Let’s see what you’ve got Shane.
