The New York Rangers have an impressive prospect pool.
Most are anticipated to be huge breakout players for the team. New York Rangers prospect Nils Lundkvist is an anticipated player by many Rangers fans.
Lundqvist is a defenseman that was drafted 28th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft and fans want to see him in the future. Fans wondered if Lundkvist would be signing with the Rangers for the upcoming season.
It was announced a few days ago that Lundkvist would be re-signing with the Sweden team, Lulea.
Lundkvist stated one of the reasons he was not signing with the NHL was because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Lundqvist stated how he can gain more experience in Sweden before making that big transition.
While I’m sure having Lundkvist would have been a great addition, there would probably be a 50/50 chance of him staying in the NHL. The Rangers would most likely keep him in Hartford for a bit. This extra time in the Swedish Hockey League could be beneficial as Lundkvist is only 19 years old.

This past season with Lulea, Lundqvist had 11 goals and 20 assists in 45 games. Lundqvist was also awarded SHL Most Points by a Junior, SHL Most Assists by a Junior, and SHL Best Junior. With these kinds of stats and awards, the Rangers should look into signing him sometime in the future. The Rangers may form a contract with Lundkvist in the 2021-2022 NHL season.
While the Rangers defense has gotten a lot better this season, I believe it still needs some work. Having good defense will bring this team altogether and make the Rangers a serious team.
Younger defensemen like Lundkvist and K’Andre Miller can be the future of this team.
Lundkvist has a spot on the Blueshirts in the future and can keep this team young and powerful.
