There may not be much news revolving around sports, but a new report came out about New York Rangers prospect, Nils Lundkvist.
Nils Lundkvist was selected 28th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft by the Rangers.
Lundkvist is 19 years old from Sweden and plays on defense.
Recently, Lundkvist was named the Junior Player of the Year in the Swedish Hockey League. Playing 45 games this season, Lundkvist had 11 goals and 20 assists. Lundqvist was also awarded the most assists and points by a junior in the Swedish Hockey League. Lundkvist broke the record for most points by a defenseman under 20, previously held by NHL veterans such as Victor Hedman and Erik Karlsson.
These are great numbers for a defenseman and the Rangers could use him in the future. Lundkvist is young but seems to have experience. Lundkvist was on Sweden’s under 20 team for the World Junior Championship, having seven assists and one goal in eight games.
The play Lundkvist uses could be described as quick, but confident. This defenseman is fast-paced and can handle the puck with ease.
Lundkvist is not the biggest defenseman, stands at 5’11 and weighs 174 lbs, but the Rangers front office sees his skill with the puck instead.
As of now, Lundkvist has not signed with the Blueshirts. There have been no talks of a contract. The Rangers recently signed defenseman K’Andre Miller who was also picked in the 2018 draft. With this signing, many have been anticipating whether the Rangers will sign Lundkvist
Defense for the Rangers has gotten better, but there is room for improvement. A player like Lundkvist would be a great fit alongside other young and fast players such as Fox and Trouba.
Lundkvist is young and has time to improve his play, but there is talent that the Rangers should not ignore.
This would be a great addition to the team’s future.
