The Yankees have had a plethora of talent throughout their organization, but three of their prospects have been standing out in multiple top MLB prospects lists.
These three outstanding Yankees prospects are…
- 16-year-old outfielder Jasson Dominguez (yes, 16 years old)
- 20-year-old right-handed starting pitcher Deivi Garcia
- 23-year-old right-handed starting pitcher Clarke Schmidt
For Baseball America’s Top 100 prospects, Dominguez was ranked 38th, Schmidt was ranked 62nd, and Garcia was ranked 65th.
Baseball America released their top 100 prospects for the 2020 season today. Three Yankees made the list:
38. Jasson Dominguez
62: Clarke Schmidt
65: Deivi Garcia https://t.co/gIlbsNqkyC— Dan Federico (@DanJFederico) January 22, 2020
Here on the official MLB Youtube channel, the three prospects are not ranked as highly as they are on Baseball America, but they are in the Top 100 here regardless. Garcia is ranked 92nd (at 1:45), Schmidt is ranked 88th overall (at 2:35), and Dominguez is ranked 54th overall (at 9:45).
Lastly, on the Baseball Prospectus Top 101 list, the three are ranked very differently from the last two lists. Dominguez is ranked 46th, Garcia is ranked 24th, and Schmidt is not even on the list.

Schmidt was selected by the Yankees in the first round of the 2017 MLB Draft but did not play until 2018 after undergoing Tommy John surgery. In 27 minor league games, he has posted an ERA of 3.39 and a WHIP of 1.13. Since coming back from his surgery, he has been climbing top prospect lists, and even used to be on some of Baseball Prospectus’ previous lists. He has been working hard to come back from his injury, and his time in pinstripes could be coming very soon.
Deivi Garcia’s name has been talked about a great deal since 2019, especially since many thought he could have been put on the Yankees’ postseason roster. Garcia was signed by the Yankees in 2015, and in 293.2 IP in the minors, Garcia has posted a 3.37 ERA and 1.14 WHIP. Garcia has a huge upside, as seen by his ranking on Baseball Prospectus, and could be a very good pitcher in the coming years. He is only 20, so he may need some more time before he comes to the Yankees, but that does not take away his huge potential.
Jasson Dominguez is considered to be one of the best if not the best Yankees prospect, despite being SIXTEEN years old.
He has yet to play a professional game, but his talent is very easy to see. “The Martian”, a nickname given to him because he is out of this world, has been called the teenage Mike Trout because of how good he is. Dominguez is a switch-hitting outfielder, and the list of praise is almost never-ending.
Fangraphs compared his tools to a combination of that of Yasiel Puig, Bo Jackson, and Yoan Moncada. He regularly records exit velocities over 100 miles per hour as both a right-handed hitter and a left-handed hitter. His 60-yard dash was almost the same as Billy Hamilton’s, who is considered the fastest player in baseball. Dominguez’s dash was 6.3 seconds, and Hamilton’s was 6.2. When he breaks into the MLB, he’s going to take it by storm.
The Yankees have one of the deepest farm systems in baseball, and when one sees these top talents, it’s easy to understand why.
