As we get closer to summer that can mean only one thing for NHL fans. That is the NHL Draft is slowly approaching. For New York Rangers fans, this year will be huge. The Rangers have the second overall pick.

This gives the team the chance to draft Jack Hughes or Kaapo Kakko. These two players are expected to be the first and second overall picks of the draft. While many don’t see the New Jersey Devils passing up on Hughes, you truly never know what can happen in drafts. With that being said, how can one of these young players fit with the Rangers?

Jack Hughes is an 18-year-old American player. Hughes plays center and has been dominant. In World Juniors, Hughes has a total of 12 goals and 22 assists. In the 2018-2019 USA U20, Hughes had 4 assists in 4 games. In the 2017-2018 season, the USA Hockey Junior Player of the Year and the U18 WJC Most Valuable Player were awarded to Hughes. The 18-year-old also broke the record for all-time scoring in the U.S. National Team Development Program. Fans can tell that this player is going to be something special. Hughes is a skilled playmaker and always looks to make a pass first, but his ability to score and shoot is just as amazing.

Kaapo Kakko is an 18-year-old from Finland. Kakko plays right wing and is another skilled play-maker, but looks to score more than to pass. For TPS, Kakko has a total of 95 goals and 91 assists. In the 2018-2019 season, Kakko was awarded Most Goals by a Rookie in SM-Liiga. Kaapo Kakko has a precise shot, the accuracy and release in his shooting create an electric goal. The 18-year-old can skate and handle a puck through many defensemen which is something fans would love to see.

Both of these young forwards are going to have an extremely bright future. Both would make a great fit for the Rangers as the team can use a skilled, young player. Either way, Rangers fans should be excited to see one of these players be a part of the team next season.
