Earlier this month the NHL held their draft lottery where it was determined what pick each team gets. The New York Rangers were on the run for getting at least in the top six and many fans were thrilled to find out they had gotten the second overall pick, making the New Jersey Devils get the first pick and the Chicago Blackhawks get the third pick.
This is great for the team because now they can continue to develop by picking a very talented, young player. Many are expecting Kaapo Kakko to be picked by the Rangers. Who exactly is he and what can he do for this team?
Kaapo Kakko is a Finnish 18-year-old. He’s a forward and currently plays for TPS in Finnish Liiga. He’s 6’2 and 181 lbs making him a pretty big forward.
In the 2018-2019 season, Kakko had 22 goals and 16 assists. Throughout his whole career in hockey, he’s had 113 goals and 113 assists. In playoffs, he’s had 17 goals throughout his career.
Kakko has been ranked #2 by many sites, but he’s also been ranked #2 by TSN. This proves that the hockey community knows Kakko and what he is capable of.
Many people have described Kakko as a good well-rounded player. Many say he can move the puck well and create great offensive plays. This is the type of player the Rangers need. The Rangers need a young player who knows the game well. Kakko can provide a lot of help to the offense. He’s big, but also very fast and can move the puck around multiple players.
The Rangers already have good offensive players, but they need an extra push. With the second overall pick in the 2019 draft, the Rangers need to seriously consider Kaapo Kakko. Many are expecting him to be picked second and that can be huge for the rebuilding New York Rangers.
