I thought it’d be interesting to do something a little different. For the next few weeks, I’ll be talking with some New Jersey Devils fans, getting opinions and different takes on some popular issues that have come up during the season and the ultimate question: Hughes or Kakko?

For my first interview, I spoke with my fellow writer here at New York Sports Nation, Tom Marchiano (@MarchianoTom).

Q: So, how long have you been a Devils fan for?

A: Tom – “I’ve been a fan since the 1994 season and I was young. I was able to start really following the game and players during the 95 shortened season.”

Q: Who is your favorite player on the current roster? Why?

A: Tom – “I’ve always found the position of goaltending fascinating. I’ve always paid close attention to goaltenders growing up and I was spoiled with great ones during the 90s. For this reason I’d have to say Mackenzie Blackwood, young goalie coming up with amazing skill and it’s just fun to sit and watch him have such an impact. I really hope he has a great career ahead of him.”

Q: What are your thoughts on the extension of John Hynes as well as Ray Shero as GM?

A: Tom – “Bottom line I like both. I’m not sure how anyone can be upset with either of them. They’re doing what they can with what they have, any fan who can’t see light at the end of the tunnel, I’m not sure really knows the game.”

Q: If you had to pick one thing, what would be the biggest issue with the team right now?

A: Tom – “Injuries HAHA. Honestly though, consistency is the issue, the team is hot and cold night in and night out.”

Q: Are you a fan of the team tanking?

A: Tom – “I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m a fan, you never really want your team to lose. I look at it as, if we lose there’s a potential upside to it.”

Q: Biggest question, Jack Hughes or Kaapo Kakko?

A: Tom – “I’d be happy with either but there’s just something about Kakko. Almost as if he hasn’t gotten all the attention Hughes has, it means he’s going to surpass him in stats during his career. If that makes sense.”
