With the NFL scouting combine ending we were able to get a bit of insight on the Giants thought process in this offseason as well as the draft prospects the team has been looking at.

Eli Manning Will Be Back

After a very up and down season from the G men that saw the two-time super bowl champion take much of the blame, head coach Pat Shurmur has made it known that the veteran Quarter Back will return for his fifteenth season. While GM Dave Gettleman echoed Shurmurs sentiments about Manning returning he wasn’t as quick to commit to Manning being the starter heading into this season.

The Giants Could Be Taking a Quarterback

Shurmur noted in his press conference that he’s had the chance to watch tape on both Dwayne Haskins and Kyler Murray who are both expected to be the first two quarter backs taken in this draft. Gettleman himself noted in his press conference he’s had the chance to talk to former Giants GM Ernie Accorsi (who made the trade to take Eli Manning in the 2004 draft) and said he’d like to draft a franchise guy like Accorsi did all those years ago. The Giants offensive coordinator Mike Shula also had conversations with quarterback Dwayne Haskins in between reps during the quarterback workouts and even guided Haskins through his initial warm ups. The Giants did something similar with Saquon Barkley last year before ultimately taking him with the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft.

Haskins Still Voicing His Desire to Be a Giant

During his first meeting with the media Dwayne Haskins once again expressed that playing for the New York Giants “would be a dream come true”. Haskins had his moments to impress both the Giants and other QB needy teams with his combine workouts but it has been reported that the Giants came away most impressed with the Buckeye Quarter Back after their meeting with him in which they most likely tested his football IQ. This is news to pay attention to as GM Dave Gettleman has always felt an important part about evaluating prospects is their football knowledge.

The Giants will have options with not only Haskins and Murray but also Josh Rosen who the Arizona Cardinals drafted with the 10th overall pick in last year’s draft. It is believed that the Cardinals may look to move on from Rosen with Kyler Murray being their possible pick at number one in this year’s draft.

The Giants will look to solidify the offensive line as well as bolster up the defense which had taken much criticism this past season.
