Sitting at 2-7 entering the second half of the season, we turn to the future as we look towards a most likely rebuilding offseason.
I believe the rebuild should start with these players…
Landon Collins, S NYG
Ever since the Giants drafted Landon Collins in the second round of the 2015 draft, he has been a true star on the defense. He was even a DPOY candidate after the 2016-17 season. But after this year, his rookie deal is over and he will become an unrestricted free agent. And frankly, the Giants need to keep him. He is truly the commander of the defense. Word on the street is that if Giants and Collins don’t agree to a long-term deal, then the Giants will use a franchise tag on Collins.
Justin Herbert, QB Oregon
Star quarterback for the Oregon Ducks is the consensus top quarterback in the draft class according to analysts and scouts. And this past weekend, Giants GM and Assistant GM were in attendance as Herbert through for 288 yards and 3 TDs in a loss vs Utah. And with Eli Manning rapidly heading towards retirement, Herbert seems like he is the next franchise quarterback for the G-Men.
Greg Little, OT Ole Miss
The Giants offensive line has been a mess this year. And Little is a top OT prospect who might be available for the Giants in the 2nd round. Little, ironically, has great size which is something crucial for lineman. He is also very athletic. If drafted, he could start at right tackle for UFA Chad Wheeler.
Anthony Barr, OLB Vikings
Along with QB and offensive line, the Giants need to find a linebacker that can work across from Olivier Vernon. I think Pro Bowler Anthony Barr will be a great option for the Giants. He is a staple on the Vikings defense, but some aren’t quite sure if he will be resigned as he enters free agency after this year. And if Minnesota fails to sign him, he would be a great addition to the Giants D, who lost JPP last offseason.
