Hello, and welcome to first article of many to come regarding the New York Islanders 2018-2019 season! If you like what you see, please comment, follow or like as much as you please.
This final game is the most important as you’ll see what most likely resembles the lineup for opening night next Thursday, October 4th. The main changes you’ll see from the NYR game are the bottom two forward lines and a few switch ups on the defensive pairs:
- Lee-Nelson-Eberle
- Beauvillier-Barzal-Bailey
- Martin-Cizikas-Clutterbuck
- Kuhnhackl-Kovar-Komarov
- Pelech-Pulock
- Hickey-Leddy
- Toews-Boychuk
Pelech and Pulock remain together, but you’ll see Toews slotting in with Boychuk. I personally like this move as we get to see Toews prove himself in the first game since Lou Lamoriello signed Luca Sbisa to a one year deal. This is his opportunity to prove to not only Lou and Barry, but his teammates as well.
Also look for key plays set by Lehner and Greiss as Barry Trotz said both goalies will see time tonight to get them ready for the regular season. In Lehner’s last interview he revealed that he was about 75-80% where he wanted to be. He’s looked pretty solid so if we’re going to see a 25% consistent improvement over the season, count me excited. Greiss has also looked close to his 2015-16 form as he looks more poised and comfortable in the net. After returning to his original trainer and the Islanders bringing in Mitch Korn and Piero Greco we can expect to see improvement from last year’s situation.
